課程說明

本工作坊從新聞英文寫作之標題、架構、導言、常用句型解析、導言寫作類型等基本概念出發，講解不同類型的英文新聞寫作風格，逐步帶領同學理解英文新聞寫作的世界。後半段則著重於當今重要新聞議題與問題意識分析，藉由選讀世界重大局勢的新聞，帶領同學思考一則新聞背後的目的與隱藏的視角，解構所謂的客觀性。課堂上將閱讀不同新聞報導類型，並含實際寫作練習。適合對象為對英文新聞寫作，擴充新聞英文字彙，或國際新聞感興趣者。

※課程包含講授與討論：講授部分以英文為主，中文為輔，討論部分可以中文進行。
※習作：課堂上含作業練習。如為課後練習，同學可選擇自由繳交。

This workshop will introduce the basics of English news writing -- headline, structure, lead, grammar and sentence patterns, while extensive reading in class acquaint you with different news writing genres. One goal of this workshop is how to write a good news story. Therefore, one might have the chance to write a lead or news article paragraphs in class. The second aim of this workshop highlights on "how to read a news story". Through close reading of selective news articles and feature stories, one tries to problematize the "objective" news, that is, find out the hidden intention which leads to the discussion of rhetoric, linguistic strategies, narrative, and ideology analysis. Through this workshop, you will get the gist of English news writing in practice and also become aware of "the process" of news making. There will be handouts in advance, in-class discussion and occasional writing assignments. Participation in discussion in strongly encouraged.

* There will be in-class writing practices. Occasional take-home assignments are optional.
* The lecture will be conducted in both English and Chinese. Chinese is allowed in group discussion.
